Only a 20 minute ferry ride from Paihia, is a quiet township and has a place in history as NZ's first capital. It offers visitors accomodation and a variety of attractions. These include a number of historic buildings such as Christ Church (1836) which is the country's oldest surviving church, and Pompallier House; the country's oldest surviving industrial building.
Also the beach is great for walking along and exploring, it is a stony beach so lots of stones to 'stone skip' across the water.
